Nana's Chair

Wubs says the cutest things, and I often jot them down to tell daddy when he gets home from work. (We have a 'tell daddy list' at our house, and each morning, I start a list of things I want to share with David when he gets home.) I also add Wubs' quotes to our blog from time to time. However, some of the things Wubs says are so funny that I need to explain the whole story to do the quote justice. wink. Here is the conversation I had with Wubs on our way to my children's ministry meeting this morning:
"Mommy, when I ride in Papa's car, Nana sits by me."
"
I saw Nana sitting by you! I know you had fun riding with Nana and Papa."
"But Nana doesn't have a chair."
(Wubs rides in a booster seat. I could see the wheels turning as she was trying to think of the most logical reason why Nana would not require a car seat. Just as I was about to explain to Wubs that 'Nanas' don't need to ride in car seats, Wubs had already come up with the answer.)
"Maybe Papa forgot to get her one."

Here are the girls playing in our sprinkler. Bella, being ever so cautious, refused to go near the tricky water spraying contraption.

"This is close enough for me, mommy."

"I shake my fist at you, you water spewing monster!"

Wet snugs. Precious.
"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, who he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life."- Titus 3:4-7

Happy Birthday to Wubs

This weekend we celebrated Wubs 4th birthday! Nana and Papa came to town, which was a special treat. (Lucy the dog came, too. The girls were thrilled!) Wubs asked me to make her a dalmation birthday cake, however, I didn't have a dog-shaped pan. My friend, Mindy, loaned me her teddy bear pan, and I had hoped I could ice the cake in such a way it could pass as a dalmation. Wubs loved it- however, daddy and Papa got in a few good jokes about the unique birthday creation! wink! ( Dirty polar bear cake, teddy bear-dalmation hybrid cake, just to name a few...)

Happy Birthday, sweet girl! We love you!!!!

Wubs shows us how old she is now, with those sweet little fingers.

That smile can always melt our hearts!

Here is Wubs blowing out her candles and making her birthday wish. I'm guessing her wish involved Pet Shops, her favorite toy. (The King family and Nana made her wish come true!)

More VBS fun!

The girls have been enjoying their time at vacation Bible school so much! In addition to hearing Bible stories, making crafts, eating fun snacks, and singing cute songs- they got to see real sheep in the foyer of our church! The theme of VBS is the Boomerang Express, and the decorations are 'Australian'. Wubs loved petting the sheep but Bella only wanted to look. The girls both giggled and giggled whenever the sheep would 'talk'!

Vacation Bible School

(Here is Wubs, standing outside of her VBS classroom! She loved the giant kangaroo. Bella stayed close to mommy during this picture- something about that kangaroo looked mighty suspicious to her! wink!)
This week is vacation Bible school at our church! Last night was the first night, and the entire ride home, Wubs told me all about the fun she had- jumping with a paper bag pouch so she could be a kangaroo, eating popsicles, singing with Luke's mommy (Christy is the VBS preschool music director) and holding a koala bear. It is such a blessing to watch Wubs learning about Jesus, and enjoying some sweet fellowship with her friends!

(Here are the girls enjoying a 'kid's tray' at the movies! )
At our local movie theater, there are free children's movies in the summer. Today we went to see Horton Hears a Hoo. Wubs loved it, and Bella watched too- but just for a little bit! Instead, Bella entertained herself with popcorn, flipping her chair open and shut, and playing with the ice in her cup!

Duke

Our family recieved a special treat this week! For four days, we had the opportunity to 'dogsit' for a sweet boy named Duke. The girls loved walking him, feeding him treats, and playing with him. It took Bella a little over a day to warm up to such a big doggie, but once she realized Duke had no intentions of eating her, she loved to pet him and touch his nose. Wubs proudly announced to everyone we saw at the YMCA, church, and Wal-Mart, "We have a new dog named Duke!"

"Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."- Romans 5:3-5

'A Mergency!'

This morning as I was putting away laundry, I heard the scampering of little feet. Wubs ran into the room and exclaimed, "Mommy! I'm having a mergency! Come quick!" While following Wubs to her bedroom (apparently the site of the 'emergency') I asked, "What happened honey?" As we rounded the corner and entered her room, Emma Grace stopped in her tracks. "See my mergency? Look at Bella. She is ripping the pages in my book!" There sat Bella, amongst the ripped pages of Giggle, Giggle, Quack. "Bella, did you rip the pages of Wub's book?" Bella put her head to her chest and shook it from side to side. "Oh, no." It took all of me to keep from laughing- that sweet little thing! Luckily, the book Bella chose for her vicious attack was merely a Chic-Fil-A kid's meal prize, not a beloved bedtime story or a library book. God is certainly teaching me a lot about patience through motherhood. And I'm loving every minute of it! wink!

"Meeee!!"

Information you need to know prior to today's story...
I love to ask the girls questions such as: "Who wants a snack?" or "Who wants to blow bubbles" or "Who wants to go play outside?" because they always respond with pure joy and excitement! They raise one arm and together they will sing "Meeeee!!"

One day a week, I work 4 hours in the office at our church. (While I'm at work, the girls go to a friend's house to play. They have lots of fun with Ms. Stacey and her 3 children!) This morning I needed a few more minutes to get ready, but the girls were very anxious to leave. I could hear a little quarrel beginning in the living room, so I called out from our bathroom, "Girls, please walk away from each other. Use kind words and walk away." Wubs immediately walked away, and walked right into the bathroom with me. "Mommy, why did you tell me to walk away from Bella?" Now Bella had joined us in the bathroom, and she was looking at me as if to say, "Yeah mommy, why did you want us to walk away?" I put down my mascara and knelt down to give my answer. "Mommy was trying to get ready, and I could hear you two using mad words. Since I couldn't see what was happening in the living room, I just asked you two to walk away. I didn't know who was being naughty." Both girls listened intently, and Bella raised her little arm and replied, "Meeeeee!!"

p.s.- Below is a picture of our new refrigerator! Our old one departed this weekend after a good 17 years of service! wink! Since our new fridge has an ice-maker, Wubs is enjoying using our old ice trays to sort her little Pet Shop accessories.

Praising Him

Several months ago, David and I started a prayer journal. Each week we start a new page in our journal. At the top of the page, we write: 'Prayer Requests for the Week of_______". On the other side, we write "Praises". Our journal has been a great tool for documenting the many ways the Lord is answering our prayers, and also growing us through our trust in Him!

Wubs frequently joins me in the morning at the kitchen table during my quiet time. She recognizes my 'Bible book' but she has been curious about our prayer journal. (*side note* Our prayer journal also comes in very handy for a forgetful woman like myself! If I tell someone "I'll be praying for you." - I want to remember to do it! wink!) I explained to Wubs that daddy and mommy like to write down our prayers, and we like to tell Jesus thank you for answering prayers. I asked Wubs if she'd like to keep a little journal of her own, and she was excited about the idea. So here we are, Week 1 for Wub's new book of praise for Jesus. She wanted me to draw a little picture for each of her 'entries', which include thanking Jesus for her Bolt dog, sunshine, and her swingset!

Our First Yardsale

(We had an early morning on Saturday!! Bella wasn't really awake yet for her tubby...)

This weekend we had our first yardsale! We woke up early on Saturday morning, loaded everything up, and headed to our yardsale. (We had our sale with another family, and it was held in their front yard.) We got to meet lots of people, and we did sell several items, including things that we didn't think anyone would really want. wink! Wubs and Bella enjoyed playing outside, eating donuts, and watching movies all morning. When we got home, about 2pm that afternoon, our neighbors were having a birthday party in our cul-de-sac. Although we had been invited, I had thought the girls would be too sleepy from the morning's excitement to attend. The girls were both squealing with delight when they saw the big, colorful moonbounce. They had a great time, and it was a wonderful day!

Sleep Tight

"Mommy, will you read a bedtime story to me and Bella?"
"Of course! Can you scoot over so mommy can read with you?"

"Once upon a time..."

"Thank you, mommy! We are ready to go night-night now." *yawn*
"Goodnight sweet girls. I will see you in the morning."

It was the strangest thing! Early that evening, I read the girls their story, tucked them in and kissed them goodnight. For some reason, they were so sleepy the next morning...
Huh.
I guess it was just one of those things...

Sesame Street Live- "When Elmo Grows Up"

Our family was given free Sesame Street Live tickets for this past weekend! Some of our friends won the tickets from the local
newspaper, but since they were unable to attend, they very generously shared with us. We got to sit in the 3rd row! It was so much fun.(*On a side note, of the 3 performances we've seen with our girls at the RBC Center- we have always gone for free. God is always spoiling us with such unique opportunities to spend time together as a family!*) We knew Wubs would love it, but we weren't so sure what Bella would think of it all. We didn't know if she was going to be overwhelmed...her little personality is so different than Wubs! Bella really surprised us! She was intrigued by the dancing characters, music, and lights. She stood up on my lap and clapped and squealed through most of the performance! wink! Wubs was sad at the end of the show (when we didn't buy her a $30 trinket), but Daddy cheered her right up by treating his girls to some Goodberry's instead!
Yum!
P.S.
The pictures below are for you, Nana. Thank you!
