Bedtime Stories

A few weeks ago,we got a new Bible to read with our girls at bedtime. We had heard about The Jesus Storybook Bible and we wanted to add it to our little library. Daddy surprised us and picked it up at the bookstore one day while he was out! It has been a family favorite ever since!

This Bible is wonderful! Emma Grace and Bella love the illustrations, the wonderful descriptions of the people, and the best part- every story points to Jesus. For example, last night our story was about Jacob, and the two sisters, Leah and Rachel, from Genesis 29-30. Rachel was very pretty and Leah was beautiful, too... but on the inside. Jacob loved Rachel, so he worked for her father for seven years to earn her hand in marriage. However, Rachel's father played a trick on Jacob and on his wedding night, it was Leah who became his bride. ( Emma Grace giggled at this part because in our storybook Bible, Jacob says, "Laban! You scoundrel!" I think scoundrel is going to become a new word in her every day vocabulary now! ha ha.) So Jacob worked for Laban for another seven years, so that he could have Rachel as his bride as well. Jacob loved Rachel the most, and at first, Leah was very sad. But the Lord showed Leah his great love and gave her a joy like she'd never known before! God had very, very special plans for Leah! Here is the ending, as it is written in The Jesus Storybook Bible:
"And you'll never guess what job God gave Leah. You see, when God looked at Leah, he saw a princess. And sure enough, that's exactly what she became. One of Leah's children's children's children would be a prince- the Prince of Heaven- God's Son. This Prince would love God's people. They wouldn't need to be beautiful for him to love them. He would love them with all of his heart. And they would be beautiful because he loved them. Like Leah."

Last night, as we were cleaning up toys and getting ready to start the bedtime routine, Emma Grace said, "Mommy! What Bible story do we get to read tonight?" She enjoys our Bible lessons during homeschool, but she especially loves this Bible storybook! And Bella has been choosing this new Bible as the book she 'reads' while she is falling asleep in her bed. (We allow our children to look at a book every night with their Buzz Lightyear flashlights after we tuck them in. Since they share a room, looking at one more book before bed helps them allow eachother to fall asleep without too much talking and giggling! wink!)

Have a wonderful weekend!
