Homeschool field trip: the Titanic exhibit

We enjoyed a very special field trip this week! On Tuesday morning, we met several of our friends at a museum in Raleigh to tour the Titanic exhibit! It was amazing! (And as an extra special treat, our family had the privedge of bringing our dear friend, Ariane, who was here visiting from Quebec! We love you, Miss Ariane!) We learned so much, and we saw so many unbelievable artifacts. Our favorite artifacts included actual the bell that the lookout rang when he spotted the iceberg, the beautiful White Star Line dishes and silverware, a top hat, cooking pots, and the jewelry pieces. We also really enjoyed recieving boarding passes as we entered the exhibit, so we could pretend to be a passenger. Each boarding pass had the name of an actual Titanic passenger, along with several facts about that person. We all learned the reason for "our" voyage, our age, who we were traveling with, and at the very end of the exhibit, we looked to find our name on the list of survivors or those who perished. Ariane, Wubs, Bella, and I all survived! (Wubs was devastated to learn that her husband died. She was the mother of an 8 month old baby, and only the mother and baby lived. Bella was an Irish immigrant and one of the few 3rd class passengers that survived!) I couldn't take pictures inside the exhibit, but I did snap a few  before and after our tour...

Here are a few of our friends, enjoying a display of  unique fish.

JJ liked the 'bishies' too! (Fishies)

Wubs and her sweet friend, Clara.

Bella, Wubs, and mommy inside a very realistic tree display. When you look up inside the tree, there are pretend bats!

Wubs and Ariane! (All our children fell in love with Ariane!)

Ariane and JJ, watching a movie about birds that was projected onto a dome ceiling. It was really neat!

We were just in time to watch lunch time for the Great Siren. (He was a salamander creature that looked like a flat snake with these small hands! Creepy- cute.) The children loved that!

Wubs with her Titanic boarding pass. It was such a wonderful day!
